NSE holds it’s 4th Market Data Workshop

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), recently held the 4th edition of its Market Data Workshop in Lagos discussing on the theme, “Partnerships, Products and the Customer.’’ 

The Chief Executive Officer, NSE, Mr. Oscar N. Onyema, OON, in his opening remarks stated that, “this year’s theme shines the spotlight on the need for a more inclusive collaboration among capital market players. To analyze the information in market data and to inform the debate on the challenges of extracting this information from raw data to deliver a data product that is easily consumed to make informed investment decisions, calls for concerted cooperation by all parties in our ecosystem.

He further highlighted the increasing importance of leveraging market data in boosting retail investor participation in the Nigerian capital markets.

He also noted that, the Exchange had evolved its product strategy to focus on catering to the needs of the end-user, stating that “we believe in customer centricity and we will continue to foster partnerships with local stakeholders across the market, incorporating new technologies and expertise to drive market data by-products like derivatives and other structured products such as the Exchange Traded Funds.”

The panel discussions and presentations enlightened the audience through the leading industry experts topics ranging from leveraging market data in financial modelling to the increasing importance of market data in shaping investment decision making.

Contributing on the relevance of the workshop in developing the Nigerian capital market, Mr. Jude Chiemeka, Divisional Head, Trading Business stated that “The Nigerian Stock Exchange instituted the NSE Market Data Workshop to inspire market participants and the wider ecosystem to become more innovative in the use of market data as they strive to leapfrog performance through the use of the array market data solutions offered by NSE”.

In line with its new strategy of customer-centricity and leveraging on digitization and fourth industrial revolution technologies, The Exchange showcased the better version of X-Mobile, its mobile application. 

The Head of Strategy and Research at the NSE, Mr. Okon P. Onuntuei, also demonstrated the application to the audience at the workshop highlighted the importance of the application in driving investor participation. “This app is one of many ways of reaching our ambitious goal to enlighten 25 million retail investors in Nigeria and diaspora. We believe this platform will become the primary interface for Nigerians to stay abreast of global market trends and domestic economic performance, as well as provide continuous insights to opportunities for portfolio rebalancing”.

However, the 2018 NSE Market Data Workshop was sponsored by Infoware Solutions, Helwlett Packard Enterpise, C&I Leasing Plc., Zenith Bank Plc., Programos Solutions, CSCS Plc., Zanibal Solutions, DBH Solutions and Ineh Mic Autos.
